STRATEGY

The “Strategy for Reclaiming Public Spaces: Tirana – Novi Sad – Skopje” is created for theatre professionals, urban activists and other interested parties to gain an insight into the possibilities and challenges one can face during reclaiming public spaces.

Within this publication, you will find a short description of all the elements comprising the SPA:RE project, with a particular focus on the activities undertaken during its realisation: the difficulties we faced and the solutions we came up with. The basis for the development of these strategies is the international multidisciplinary performing arts project SPA:RE – Public Spaces ReClaimed, in which a team of international artists worked on a series of immersive, site-specific performances as artistic interventions aimed at revitalising some of the public spaces in Novi Sad, Skopje and Tirana.

During this two-year project, we gained precious experience in conducting such an ambitious, research-based multidisciplinary artistic endeavour, thus we can point out some of the most relevant topics we worked on, which might be useful for those interested in embarking on this kind of journey in the future.
It aims to empower urban planners, policymakers, and community leaders with practical tools and ideas to revitalise public spaces and enhance the quality of life for their communities.

This publication is presented as a sort of User Manual, or, perhaps more precisely, considering the socially engaged nature of the project, as a Manifesto, aimed at the Artist, focusing more on short descriptions and clear instructions than going into details about the specificities of the context and the outcomes.
